PRESENZA: Social distance screen for outdoor benches
«Ego cogito, ergo sum, sive existo» which translated from Latin means: «I think, therefore I am, or I exist ».
“Discourse on the Method” 1633 René Descartes (Cartesio)
In times of Coronavirus the most necessary protection seems to be to ensure a distance between people to reduce the dangers of contagion. But the pleasure of living an outdoor space, of sitting on a bench to watch the walk, to savor a glimpse of the landscape cannot be limited by a subtle evil. Just as the pleasantness of an open space cannot be mortified by rigid separations and absurd barriers.
So here is a simple idea, an artistic gesture that returns an image of pleasant company to sit and admire the view and safe under the protection. With the PRESENZA* project, people-inspired figures sit, ideally, with us on the bench, and allow the maintenance of social distance; but with their familiar image they reassure us and establish an imaginary dialogue with us.
* Presence: possibility of existing and / or of being in a specific place at a given moment
The shapes are made of shockproof and non-yellowing plexiglass, and can be installed, thanks to simple mechanical elements, also on existing benches and / or removed according to the needs of use.
