Project:

“Palazzo Gerli. A New Life for the Former Town Hall of San Giorgio sul Legnano”
by Fabrizio Bianchetti and Luigi Paolino, for the Architettura Costruita series

The publication stems from the experience gained through the functional refurbishment and restoration of Palazzo Gerli in San Giorgio sul Legnano, carried out to transform it into the new House of Associations. The project focused on the recovery and enhancement of the building’s environmental and architectural characteristics, combined with a measured innovation aimed at improving the efficiency of the building system and its technological solutions.

The Palazzo represents an important historical testimony for the town, having originally been built to house the municipal offices and subsequently adapted over time to accommodate different functions, leading up to its current use.

The conscious decision to enhance the Palazzo rather than sacrifice it to the prevailing taste for modern technological displays should be understood as an appreciable and sustainable choice, favouring environmental, functional, and expressive restoration.
